CIRCLE OF PARENTS

Winning at Parenting…without beating your kids may sound like a severe title, but haven’t we all felt that way before!!  This video presentation by Barbara Coloroso is the winter workshop series being presented at Circle of ParentsÒ.  This will be presented as a five part series with the following titles and dates:

Ø      February 8       “Chores”, “The Three Cons”, & “Discipline”

Ø      March 8           “Allowance”, “Mealtime”, & “Solving Problems”

Ø      March 15         “Bedtime” & “Fighting”

Ø      April 12            “Jail”, “Rebellion”, & “Sex Education”

Pre-registration is not required, but appreciated so that we can better plan the meal and the amount of Children’s Time Volunteers needed.  The workshops will be held on normal meeting nights at the United Methodist Church (803 Roy St) in Ortonville, located West of the hospital.  A free meal is served from 5:30- 6 pm and the workshop is held from 6-7 pm.  Free childcare called “Children’s Time” is provided during the workshop.  The Children’s Time program is an enjoyable time for kids and volunteers.  The program involves making crafts, reading books, and playing games. There is no fee for attending.

Circle of Parents is for all people who are involved in raising children of all ages including: single parents, two parent families, grandparents, foster parents, relatives, parents of toddlers, parents of teenagers, parents of adolescents, blended families, and anyone involved and concerned about raising healthy families and creating a supportive community for families are invited to attend.  Circle of Parents is a discussion group on how to be successful at creating healthy families and supportive communities.

Circle of Parents meets on Monday evenings at the United Methodist Church in Ortonville (803 Roy Street).  The evening is free and starts with a meal at 5:30; meetings run from 6-7pm with free childcare provided during the meeting!

For further information, call Cara at 273-2266.

Have you ever wondered “Why doesn’t this person understand what I am talking about???  What is wrong with them??”  usually the best place to look for the answer is yourself.  To help tackle this Circle of ParentsÒ is sponsoring Colors Training on February 22 from 6-7:30 pm.  All are welcome for the night to explore this tool to understand how we communicate with our children, our significant other, and ourselves.  We also want to celebrate Men and their role in children’s lives this night.

Brian McNeill, who has eight years of experience with the program, will be facilitating the group.  Brian is an Extension Educator- 4-H out of the Morris office.  Brian says, “It (the Colors Training) helps you learn about yourself and then you start to learn about other people and what really makes them tick.”

Pre-registration is required for this program because it is necessary to have at least 10 people, but no more than 40.  So first come, first serve Sign up early.  We will be meeting from 6-7:30 pm for this special session.  Call Cara at 273-2266 to register.  Meal from 5:30- 6 pm will be available as well as Childcare for the night provided by Children's Time Volunteers.

The meeting will be held at the United Methodist Church (803 Roy St) in Ortonville, located West of the hospital.  A free meal is served from 5:30- 6 pm.  “Children’s Time” volunteers will provide childcare during the parent meeting.  The “Children’s Time” program is an enjoyable time for kids and volunteers.  The program involves making crafts, reading books, and playing games.

Here's some of the information that you need to know.

1.  Classes will begin in Marshall about March 1, 2010.

2.  Our cut scores for this class will be CASAS 230 in both Reading and Math.
